Wae Rebo is a traditional village located in the mountains of Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. It is famous for its unique, cone-shaped houses called Mbaru Niang, which are built entirely from natural materials like wood, bamboo, and palm fiber. The village is home to the Manggarai people and is known for preserving their traditional culture and way of life.
Surrounded by lush forests and often covered in mist, Wae Rebo sits about 1,200 meters above sea level. It is only accessible by foot, with a 3-4 hour hike through the forest from the nearest village, Denge. This remote location adds to the peaceful and mystical atmosphere of the village.
Wae Rebo has been recognized as a UNESCO cultural heritage site for its efforts in preserving traditional architecture and customs. Visitors are welcomed warmly and often take part in a welcoming ceremony before entering the village. A stay in Wae Rebo offers a rare and authentic glimpse into Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage.
Day 1
Labuan Bajo Transfer to Wae Rebo
After breakfast at your Hotel In Labuan Bajo, our driver will be ready waiting for you In the Lobby and take you to the town to purchase something that you need. Then, Transfer to Wae Rebo Village at 08.00 am, get to Denge Village for start tracking through the rain forest. Approx 2 hours Trekking you will find the pos that you can see Wae Rebo’s profile. There is a kind of bells to let them know some guest is coming.
When they heard the bells sounds, local peoples prepare how to welcome you with local songs with a tradisional music it’s called gong and gendang. Arrive at Wae Rebo local peoples will welcome you and get to the traditional houses to let you know, what should you do and what something forbidden.
In the afternoon you can get around of traditional houses and visit the local waters for drinks and for bath, and you can witness the local people how they pound the coffee to make a nature flour.

DAY 2
Wae Rebo to Labuan Bajo get back to the Hotel
After breakfast your guide will handle you back to Denge Village more then 1 hours Trekking.
Arrive at Denge Village get to the Car and Drive back to Labuan Bajo.
And drop to Hotel In Labuan Bajo
